Grouting Services is proud to be supporting Safari Construction on the development at 147-149 Victoria St West in Auckland Central. The project involves constructing a new 13 storey building complete with two basement carpark levels. Excavations of up to 8.5m below existing street level required perimeter retention with concrete piles and ground anchors. To mitigate against long-term ground lease costs, and to avoid potential obstructions for future developments, the ground anchors were designed to be removed. Engeo undertook the retention design.
Grouting Services was awarded the subcontract for the supply, installation and removal of the ground anchors and reaction supports. A total of 59No multi-strand removable compressive distributive (SW-RCD) anchors were installed. The anchors were nominally 16m in length and comprised strand configurations of between 3-5No 15.2mm superstrands. Drilling was undertaken using a track mounted rig with rotary wash drilling techniques. An innovative bracket (Samwoo Max Bracket) was used to provide an economical connection detail between the anchor head and the steel walers. De-tensioning and removal of the critical anchors took place successfully 10-months after the anchors were installed.
The technology for the SW-RCD anchors was developed by Samwoo, the leading representative of ground anchors in Korea. Grouting Services has a distributorship agreement to both supply and install anchors from Samwoo in New Zealand.
