The Britomart car park building contains 1250 parking spaces and supplies car parking for the entire Britomart Precinct. Due to strict site restrictions there was only a 300mm structural depth available for the floor and beam construction. Using an in-situ post-tensioned floor slab proved to be the ideal option. As the building foot print was approximately 140m by 50m and six storeys tall, this building is one of the largest post-tensioned buildings ever built in New Zealand.
Grouting Services was awarded subcontract for the supply and installation of the post-tensioning works required for the 36,000sq.m car park. The work was completed in 24 pours and involved some 185km of pre-stressing strand.
