Prior to the production ground anchor works commencing, full scale proving trial anchors are required to verify the assumptions made by Grouting Services in relation to the geotechnical ultimate bond rupture. The trial anchors comprise 14No x 15.2mm superstrands (3,570kN UTS) with a 3m bond length and 15m free length all installed in a 150mm diameter drill hole. The maximum force able to safely be applied during tensioning is 85% UTS (the end of the elastic range) or 3,035kN and this allows for testing up to an ultimate bond capacity in excess of 2,000kPa.
