Structural strengthening to various foundations at the existing Mangere Campus included a requirement to install micro-piles within the confines of the existing building. This meant restricted access equipment would be required.

Grouting Serviecs was awarded the subcontract works to incorporate new micro-piles into new concrete foundations that would be tied into the existing concrete works with conventional reinforcement. Verification trials were carried out in advance of the production works to confirm the most appropriate installation technique, and, establish the geotechnical ultimate bond rupture. Two verification micro-piles were installed, one using conventional rotary wash drilling techniques and the other utlising auger drilling. A total of 24No x 15m long production micropiles (K60-32mm GRP bar) were subsequently installed and acceptance tested, which, included a requirement to monitor creep for 60minutes.
